Public information and awareness activities
Description: The SSRR Web site was refreshed in 2018, but no updates have been made since then. It is important to ensure that SSRR continues to be very visible on the North Shore, and to inform the population about what is done for aquatic ecosystems. The update of the Web site will allow us to integrate a history of the evolution of SSRR since its foundation. This update will make all our studies, follow-ups and reports, which constitute an interesting data source on salmon population in Romaine and Puvialon Rivers, available to the public and various organizations. The Histoire de saumon program (History of salmon) is deployed across Québec, but SSRR coordinates and installs this program in 5 schools in Minganie. In total, more than 150 young people take part in the project and in the year end, release of small fry in Romaine River. This year’s activity also includes the release of small fry, a visit of the hatchery and an introduction to fly fishing. To extend this program and to make it unique for the North Shore, and the Innus, adaptation of the project and translation of some documents are planned for 2024. Each year, SSRR prepares an annual report of its activities which is distributed during various events and provided to all members of FQSA. It is also available online on the Web site and published on Facebook. The report presents images of artificial spawning occurring in the lab and of operations taking place on the river. Its is an important distribution medium for SSRR because of its broad scope and the quality of the information it provides.
