Agricultural Partnerships for Sustainable Watersheds

Recipient: Kennebecasis Watershed Restoration Committee
Approved Amount: $17,500
Year Approved: 2024

Description: “Agricultural Partnerships for a Sustainable Watershed” is a multi-partner project that will blend important watershed themes such as biodiversity, invasive species, erosion control, riparian setbacks, and more to improve watershed health and create more sustainable farms within the Kennebecasis watershed.  The Kennebecasis Watershed Restoration Committee (KWRC) is partnering up with WWF-Canada, Nature NB, the Agriculture Alliance of New Brunswick (AANB), NB Invasive Species Council, Canadian Rivers Institute, and others to provide educational materials and events, on farm monitoring tools, and riparian and aquatic habitat restoration. Farms will be engaged in one-on-one site planning that will provide resources and tools to the farm to help improve riparian health while also demonstrating farm advantages. This project will see us improve fish bearing streams and the associated riparian areas, including stabilizing two eroding stream banks using bioengineering approaches, planting more than 5000 trees and shrubs, and assessing cold-water refuge habitat on McLeod Brook to identify threats and passage barriers.
