WATERSHADE Phase 2

Description: This project consists in implementing actions resulting from the implementation plan developed in Phase 1 of the Watershade project. The thermal refuges policy and the decision tree will be used to select and characterize thermal refuges. The main goal is to use geomatic tools to select the most relevant thermal refuges (objective of 30 thermal refuges). Those refuges will be prioritized for the restoration phases and the protection of subsequent drainage areas. The creation of maps will help launch on-site characterization of thermal refuges and associated drainage areas. A thermal imagery drone will be used to complete the characterization of 5 to 10 priority sites in 2024 and the on-site characterization of their drainage areas. Strategic temperature monitoring will be completed for those sites by installing thermographs in the river.
