Salmon conservation plan in Betsiamites River

This project consists in developing an Atlantic salmon conservation plan in Bestsiamites River. Since the real purpose of a conservation plan is to ensure a natural resource for human needs, social, ethical, legal and economic matters will also be considered in its development. The working team, made up of resource and habitat users and managers will have to deal with everyone’s values. It will be necessary to identify important habitats, assess the population durability based on demographic, ecological and genetic factors. In this project, the genetic knowledge will be limited to the development of the research protocol and to the preparation of funding applications.
