Atlantic Salmon-Kouchibouguacis watershed (education, egg incubation, restoration and monitoring).

Recipient: Friends of the Kouchibouguacis
Approved Amount: $20,000
Year Approved: 2015

This project covers a number of components that will benefit the Atlantic salmon population and its habitat in the Kouchibouguacis River watershed. Different monitoring methods will be used to collect data on salmon (and other fish species) population, available habitat, migration, age, along with water quality and environmental parameters. Salmon eggs/milt will be collected for incubation purposes. Soft bioengineering methods will be used to restore embankment integrity on two areas along the main branch of the river. An environmental consultant will provide the land owners with further guidance for future restoration work.

Different means will be applied towards educational efforts; kiosk sessions and signage will be set up at intricate locations for targeting residents from the surrounding communities, articles will be posted in local newspapers. In-class presentations and field trips will be offered to the students from the local schools. Photos will be taken and the ASCF will be recognized throughout the project.
